I thought Joseph Smith fell and bumped his head and came up with all that nonsense. If I fell and hit my head and said I've got news for everyone from God, I'd be sent to an asylum, but this guy's a prophet. I'm being serious. "Mormo" is the god of the dead in the Satanic bible.

Notorious Nicolas: The fact that you say this is new to you shows how well the Mormon church does at concealing it's history from the members. If there is something in Church History that doesn't make the church look good, they basically omit it from any 'official' materials. This is why nearly all Mormons don't know about what a bad person Joseph Smith was. The reason that LDS leaders tell you to stay away from "anti-Mormon" literature is that they know you'll find things there that are true that will make you understand how many deceptions the current LDS church is based on. Most anti-Mormon literature is just quotes from the Journal of Discourses and other official LDS publications. There are enough self-contradictions in statements by LDS prophets to prove that the church isn't true.

Wow, this is a new one to me, and I've heard a lot of silly things. The fact is, he received the plates from the angel Moroni, and there was never, in any way a salamander involved.
You might be thinking of a forged document called the "salamander letter." It was a forged letter that was supposed to be written by Martin Harris. But the letter, along with other forged documents, were proved to be fakes.
As far as the angel Moroni. We believe in AD 421, Moroni, the son of Mormon and one of the last surviving Nephites, buried the plates that his father had abridged, along with other records and artifacts, in the Hill Cumorah. Latter-day Saints most commonly recognize Cumorah, near present-day Palmyra and Manchester, New York, as the hill where Joseph Smith found the gold plates that were translated into the Book of Mormon. During the night of September 21, 1823, the angel Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith to show him where the plates were deposited in a stone box buried in the hill.

According to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (a.k.a. "The Mormons"), the Book of Mormon was written c. 400 AD by, among others, a prophet named Mormon and finished by his son, an angel named Moroni. Supposedly, it was originally recorded in reformed Egyptian on several gold plates which were discovered in the back woods of New York state by Joseph Smith, a young farm boy at the time.
It was the Angel Moroni who appeared to Smith in 1823 and told him that he would be able to find these golden plates at a hill near his home four years later, in 1827. Smith spent the next three years translating the plates into what is now known as the Book of Mormon, published in 1830.

It was a hoax. Another attempt by the adversary to put more doubt in the minds of unbelievers. Have you ever read the Book of Mormon? It's a good read.
