Believers will always be happier than atheists. That's the purpose of religion. If I believed in Santa Claus, I'd be a much happier person. If I believed my house was worth a billion dollars, I'd be a much happier person. If I believed I didn't die, but instead, went to live in Candyland with all my dead friends, I'd be a much happier person.
But I would also be quite insane.
It is true that ignorance is bliss. The theists will flame me for saying so, but that's understood. They have to hate me, and vehemently deny this fact. Because if they don't, their "ignorance" will be shattered, as will their bliss. I know... I've been there. And it was quite a painful experience.

I don't know if I'm happier than ALL believers, but I seem to be happier than a lot of them.
I think that I am happy and sure of myself because I have faith in myself, rather than someone else... but that's just a guess.
Why do you ask, are you thinking of converting to the Church of Nothing? :)

Believers are happier, because they always find the explanations awaiting them. The others, have always puzzles in their minds. They became tired of solving puzzles. But generally innovators and explorers are from that group, who don't believe in dogmas, but ask questions about the creation and evolution of life. Their happiness is a hardly achieved type..

There are depressed believers AND atheists.
There are happy believers AND atheists.
Happiness is NOT dependent on religion or "god/afterlife" belief. Happiness is dependent on a LOT of factors, and religion is not the "only factor".
I am a spiritual atheist. I am very "happy" to burst your bubble (tee hee!), I have been working on my happiness in the past 8 years and I think my life is pretty much where I want it to be. :-)
Happiness is not a given---it takes Responsibility and Effort to get to that point in one's life he or she is happy AND to Maintain it too.

There are no clear cut answers but I have an opinion. I have found in my several discussions with atheists, is they are not mentally well adjusted, and generally have issues with authority. I propose that most of them have had negative experiences with adult male role models as they grew up.
Almost every discussion I have had with atheists reveals they reject a god of their own making. I don't believe in such a god either.

Well, I don't know too many atheists, but I'd say overall no, because they have nothing to look forward to. Some people might say yes because atheists never have anyone to answer to, but the only atheist I got to know a little admitted he was pretty empty.

Dont think happiness is dependent on being either of those things.
Im sure their are depressed atheists out there, and depressed believers, and happy ones on both sides too. As a whole, I think its a toss up.

confident, existence could be a conflict, yet why seek outwards for capability while it already exists interior of you? while i've got self belief unhappy or on my own, I basically %. up the telephone and speak to a chum or relatives member (or play with my pup!). the two way, I have confidence myself to have what it takes to pull with the aid of. I particularly have in no way needed any gods to furnish me what I planned to be a faux experience of protection. If that's what human beings desire, who am I to decide? It basically isn't for me. in this international, you may basically particularly count on your self on the top of the day. desire that provides you some perception.

Studies have been done that actually prove spiritual people are happier...there was a Yahoo! news article a couple months ago, but I can't find it now.

We can be. Religious people have a thing called faith and a belief that some god is out there helping and guiding them in their life. To them, that makes them happy. Atheists have to find their own way to happiness without a god helping them.
