It is not a good idea to attempt such a dramatic drop in weight in such a short space of time.

Combining a sensible, healthy diet and exercise is the only safe, long term effective way of shedding excess body fat.

As a rough guide, a maximum of 2lbs a week is a safe upper limit for weight loss, however, measuring weight is not always the most effective way of becoming more fit and healthy. All "weight" tells you is the effect gravity is having on you while you walk around this planet. Your weight does not tell you whether you are carrying excess fat. Despite what many doctors will tell you, there is no way of determining the right weight for YOU based on your height (the dreadfully inaccurate and bizarre BMI)

You can get your bodyfat measured at many gyms and a lot of doctors' surgeries and you can also measure your hip to waist ratio. Unscientific and simple as it sounds, one of the best ways to chart your success in fighting the flab is to measure your chest, waist and hips every two to four weeks. Also, you should see your clothes becoming looser.

If you're looking at starting running, aim for two or three 20-30min sessions a week and walking for 30-60mins 2 or 3 times a week to start with. Build it up so that more of your walks become runs and you can do a couple of 30 minute quick pace runs and three longer, slower sessions a week.

Whatever you do, try to enjoy it - it helps you stick at it!

Good luck!

Why don't you run over to my house. We can make love all day...every day for the next month. You're bound to lose at least 14 pounds. Oh...and I'll throw in some chocolate and ice cream (with the workout that we are going to get, we'll need them). ; )

BTW, if you want to lose 14 pounds, I hope you are doing it to improve your health. You are beautiful the way you are.

Running is hard work but it burns the fat off like no other. Why you wanna loose so much so fast? it will surley pile back on again. the trick is to make little changes all the time. give up chips during the week.get skimmed milk, build up your running every day and find someone to go with, then it will become fun and not a chore. good luck!

running is great way to lose weight in the tummy area however it may build muscle in your legs -- the only real way to counter this problem is to cut out the things that you love to eat. Also, when runnning, if attempting to lose fat then run slow and watch your heart rate. To build muscle change your pace and sprint on occassion.
