you mean plantain? Plantains are usually bigger and sweeter than bananas. You will find that plantains are good for cooking and taste very good.

I'm Spanish so I can give you that answer, banana is the sweet smaller fruit that you find in the fresh fruit section of the supermarket, Platano is located were the other Spanish roots are in the vegetable section, ripe platano (when is yellow) can be either boiled (w/the skin) until is soft (add a bit of salt & milk to the water) eat them w/out the skin! or cut them diagonally in 1/2 inch slices and fried them (w/out the skin). Green plantains is more complicated, you can make "tostones" with them.

Plantains (platano) are a lot thicker and usually known in Mexico. You can sugar them and fry them or just fry them

The only difference is the language. Don´t let people trick you, they are the same thing, just in different languages! Banana is english and plátano is spanish.
