I have been flirting with converting from baptist to lutheran. Can I get a little guidance on how to go?

I wasn't asleep at any church. The lutheran one my wife went to just gave me more support than the baptist one I went to. I understand doctrine, and the baptist preachers that I have met sure seem to be more interested in their own vanity rather than preaching the bible.

Personally, I was raised in a Christian home. When I became an adult I began to question the things I'd been taught. I studied all the major religions, all the major denominations, and atheism. I was willing to embrace whatever I discovered to be the truth. For myself, I am a Christian today because of conviction...not because it was "expected" or force fed.

Again, personally, I believe that Lutheran doctrine is very true to scripture. While there are a couple minor things I hold differently, I am basically Lutheran in my beliefs. As other writers have said, the title of the denomination means nothing. We follow Christ, period. Whether Lutheran, Baptist, or whatever else...find a church where you can learn and grow in your faith.

The Lutheran denomination has some diverse groups within itself. These are the primary bodies:

WELS: Typically very conservative in belief and practice
Missouri: Typically moderate in belief and practice
ELCA: Typically liberal in belief and practice

Although I'm a fairly conservative guy, "Missouri synod" is what I would recommend. Usually, becoming a member simply entails attending a "Bible Information class" (or conference with the Pastor). If you agree with the primary doctrines of the Christian faith, and want to join the church, then you do so by profession of faith. Fairly simple...

you don't ask easy questions do you? I would contact a Lutheran church and speak with the Pastor about your desire. Why are you thinking of converting? Lutheranism is one of, if not the oldest non catholic, christian religions. Martin Luther was a catholic priest that noticed the evils in catholicism and broke away from the Church to start his own. Being Baptist you might find Lutheranism a little too subdued. Study the religion on the net and see what they stand for and ask yourself why you are thinking of converting. I went from Baptist to Lutheran at one point, I'm now agnostic. You will have to take some lessons, which are relatively painless, and get baptized. I don't know why you would want to do this, but on the whole, the Lutheran religion is one that doesn't get in your face all the time.

Visit a Baptist church, preferably a small one, maybe Southern Baptist, and they will give a call to who ever wants to get saved at the end of the service and you go up and talk to the pastor. I mentioned a small church so you could ask questions and get to know people easier. I wish you the best.

I'm a baptist, but the one thing i do have to say about the baptist is unfortunately we ain't very open about problems and sometimes baptist can't be excited about God. We need to be on fire for God. The only thing that truly matters is if you have trusted and asked God for forgiveness that's all that matters and of course that you strive to become better. Everything else comes with dedication and commitment to Christ.

Honestly, I would guess that is the process - I converted to Catholicism by going to a Catholic Church and asking, so I assume. . .

...whichever way you go.. the most important thing is your quiet contemplative, daily reading and prayer times with Him.. He's the only source of holiness.. peace.. joy.. etc.. And is why we have one commandment to ever love Him more and more, deeper and deeper.. I think churches close to the New Testament are what are the best.. and love, as the apostle John was always telling believers "little children love one another" - As far as switching, just go to the different church?

I don't think that you have to go through a formal process. Why would you want to convert? Find a church that teaches out of the bible and don't worry so much about denominations.
