First of all I would like to thank everyone for all the suggestions and valuable advices they have given me. I'm very grateful for them. I have another question. My mother is suffering from bilestones for three years by now. She rejects having an operation on it, as for many doctors told her, (as well she has read it in books) that as long as she has her bile, which does have it's own function, it's better to keep it, avoid having any operations on it, and leave operation to the last resort. Other doctors told her the completely opposite, and suggested her to have an operation on it as soon as possible (by throwing her bile out as for it could cause serious complications) I have heard of many nature-healing techniques such as FOOT REFLEXOLOGY, or various tea types, or DIETS that could ease her pain, and help her bile to get cured and get rid of her stones. Do you have any experiences on this field? What is the best way of curing a "stony bile" without having operations on it?

Fresh grapefruit juice mixed with olive oil taken on an empty stomach is an excellent purgative for bile stones.

I'm guessing "bile stones" is what we call gallstones here - she has gall bladder disease? I would highly recommend that your mother have her gall bladder removed. I did about 10 years ago and it's not a bad operation at all if you have a laproscopic procedure done. You're just in the hospital overnight, you have minimal incisions and you'll be completely cured afterwards. The liver makes bile just fine when the gallbladder is removed and I haven't had any problems. Once stones start forming, they don't stop and could get lodged in the bile duct, which requires immediate major surgery, not to mention excruciating pain. It's routine surgery and is much better do to before it's an emergency! (Foot Reflexology would do absolutely nothing to cure the problem!)

You should know that when the gallbladder is gone, bile flows directly from the liver into the small intestine. You don't loose bile completely. Bile is not produced in the gallbladder (which is the organ removed when you have gallbladder/bile stones), it is produced in the liver and stored in the gall bladder. You don't need gallbladder to survive. The function of gall bladder is storage of bile. When food digestion is going on bile can come directly from the liver....and not having bile storage organ - the gall bladder is not going to affect the bile production.
Gall bladder stones are cholestrol stones usually, sometimes they are also caused post infection. Since the exact cause is not known, there is not real way to prevent formation of stones. There are lot of women who have gall bladder stones but no symptoms. A low-fat, low-cholesterol diet can prevent symptoms of gallstones but cannot prevent formation of stones.
The only 100% cure for gall bladder/bile stones is surgical removalof the gall bladder.
You should explain this to your mother.

Please pay attention to what "katbg" has to say. This is a person with a medical degree who is now working on a PhD (in Infectious Diseases) and this information is correct and helpful.

I'd like to add something. The prevention of gallstones is possible since ursodiol, a bile acid medication that dissolves SOME cholesterol gallstones, also prevents them from forming. Bear in mind that I don't have your mother's medical history in front of me but this is something she can inquire about. It's only fair to say that it's difficult to identify those at high risk for developing this type of gallstones during a short period of time so that the duration of preventive treatment can be limited.

It may be her only real option is the surgical one -- a cholecystectomy. She will survive just fine without her gall bladder and she will not be losing her bile.

Try the apple juice diet. Drink 1 glass apple juice every 3 or 4 hours for 3 days. A doctor advised this diet to an elderly mother of a common friend and it worked.

you know if you try some at home remedy to flush out the stone, it could very easily get stuck in the common bile duct, since it is anly about 3 millimeters in diameter, and if that happens, you can get jaundice, develop liver probs, and have even worse pain than with the stones in just theGB, stone are there for good, they dont disappear!
