It used to work just fine, added some updates and now I don't get a picture, just audio. Any ideas how to fix it?

Sometimes update can cause problems in the programs they update. This is just how it is. You could have a few different problems. One is the update is creating this problem. Another is that a file of the program could have become currupt. This is another normal occurance from using software programs. Things just get currupted over time.

However, due to your stating this occured after updating I would start with removing the updates the last first and then check and see if it is working properly after removing each one. Remove them one at a time through the Add/Remove applet. Then restart your computer and see if your video is working. If you remove the updates that were added right before this occurred, and it is fixed, add them back one by one untill you find which one is causing the problem. Then do not use that particular update again. If it is a critical update contact Microsoft about this problem. They need to know so they can fix this.

If this does not fix your problem then you probably have a currupt file. I would uninstall the program and then re-install it agian. You may need to go to your computer venders tech help as the media player is a windows componant and it is never completely uninstalled unless you get a special tool to do so. You can get a tool to completely uninstall a windows componant from either your computer vendor or Microsoft. It is frustrating but well worth the time as I really use this media player over all others. I like it very much. I have had to competely uninstall it before in order to fix a simular problem.

Good luck

I highly reccomend uninstalling the media player and not installing on top of it. When you install on top of an existing media player it is done when you are not having any real problems but wish to update to a current version. If you have a currupt file, installing on top will not fix that file. It will still be there, and now you will have a bigger mess with two file versions to uninstall. You will be left with a mess in your regestry and you do not want that. Leaving partials in the regristry will cause performance problems you are better off without. The regristry is a complicated system and is very delicate. Just uninstall if needed and then install a different instance of the media player.

I assume you mean Windows Media Player.

Download and install it again right on top of the existing version. You don't have to uninstall the old.

Yeah you need to download the codecs for the videos..

You can download the k-lite codec pack from here...

http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm

You can get away with the top one (basic), but for an array of codecs go for (FULL)
