Ok I don't understand what you are trying to imply. Doesn't it make sense to you that they should have to press 2 to get spanish? As in it is the second option. As in it is not before English? Seems to me that already they are implying that english is our first language. Wouldn't it be worse if they said press 1 for Spanish and 2 for English?

Same opinion many others have I have received a lot of email on this subject. Why I am in America should I have to press 1 to get English. If our Washington D.C. crowd had a guts they would pass a bill making English the official language of the U.S. We would save billions.

I think it shold be only in English. If you don't understand English, then hang up the phone. Why single out Spanish?
If America were truely equal, then the phone message would be, as one person said above, "Press 22 for Greek, Press 23 for Swahili," and so on. With a message like that, we would never get to talk to someone on the phone. So, ENGLISH ONLY !!!!!!!!!

There is no national language in the US. The majority may speak English but it's not the national language. And from your poor grammar it appears you don't know English very well yourself.

Maybe you are calling the Spanish number, I sometimes get the "para español, oprima 1" but also the "for English press 1" comes when you call the Spanish number.

the national language is definately english. some stupid people would like to think that it is not, but it is. it is already a law that they have to speak english to live and work here as well, but as you know, illegal mexicans are criminals, so they will do what they do best, which is break laws. if they have to speak english, they will not, if they have to follow laws to get in, they will not. they like to make obscene comments to little girls, they like welfare and foodstamps, they like to pack twenty into a car. most of all, they like to break laws.

if you don't speak english, you are the same as a dog. you have no rights and you are not human. english is the business language of the world. speaking english shows education and intelligence. not speaking english is ignorant and useless.

remember: english is god's language.

I see what you are saying. The default should just be English and spanish speakers should have to press "1".
I believe I've only run into one system that defaulted to English if no button was pushed. They should all be that way.

I'm just curious, why is it only the spanish-speaking people who can't seem to learn English? Germans, Italians, Russians, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, etc. all seem to learn when they come to the US. I never hear anyone say "press 16 if you speak Hindu".
Seriously, why is it that it's always Spanish on bi-lingual signs? At least in Texas it is.

There should be English only and if you don't know it, learn it and speak it. We are just too nice to people who are not deserving.
