I did that with both of my children. I left them in a completely babyproofed room with baby gates up in the doorway and plenty of toys for them to play with. As long as there is absolutely nothing they can pull down on themselves, or stick things into, they will be fine.

It teaches them that it's okay to be apart from Mommy for short periods and it teaches them to be creative in playing.

No, it's not. No house is completely childproof. You would be surprised at what they can get into. When my twins were 2 they figured out how to open our chain lock and deadbolt lock by getting a chair to reach the locks and using a toy to slide the chain open.
Being over tired 98% of the time is just a part of motherhood.
If you really need an afternoon nap that bad, hire a teenager to come watch her for a few hours while you lay down.

Ive taken little naps while my toddler's been playing BUT IM in the same room and all other doors are closed (less room to roam around). I tell him "mama sleeping" Believe it or not he plays quietly. If he needs mama he knows to tap my nose and mama will get up. Yes the room is totally childproof. I seldom do this though its not something mothers should get into the habit of doing.

Have her play in the room you are in. A house is never fully childproofed. Kids moves like lightening and they do the most amazing and unexpected things. It's ok to leave them when they are married. lol

It is NOT possible to fully childproof a home.

Leave a 2 year old unsupervised? ...a ridiculous notion!

Any time you leave preschool children alone you risk serious consequences.

Sleep at night.

Ignore me, if you believe bad things only happen those others you hear about in the media.

I use to nap on the couch with my daughter playing in the same room. The room was baby proofed and a security gate was up so she could not escape! She would play for 30 min- 1 hour and I got some much needed rest.

Do you actually plan to sleep?

Will she be gated into one room, like her bedroom?

How mature is your child?

My son is 2 and sometimes I will lay in the bed with him and try to nap while he watched tv, but I wouldn't dream of letting him be up and playing loose in the house while I slept.

If she will be in her bedroom and not free to wander the house, and you are a light enough sleeper that you will hear her, you might be able to catch catnap, but I would caution you to be very careful.

You should rest (not go to sleep) in the same room where your child is playing. If you really need to get some sleep, ask a good friend to babysit for an hour.

I feel your pain, but please dont do it, she might do fine but it only takes one time for something to happen. A few weeks back someone in our small town was cleaning the kitchen while her 3 yr old son was playing in his room and he tied a sheet around himself to play superman, jumped from the top bunk of his bunk beds and strangled himself and unfortunately died. Then of course the risk of choking on something. If your really tired can you take her to a family members house for an hour or two?
