Buy this book: Turn up the Heat by Philip J. Goglia. If you follow this diet, then weight will slip away. I lost 60 pounds in 5 months in a healthy way. It was great.

Assuming your body fat percentage is higher than 28% then you burn 115 calories an hour and in a 24 hour period you burn 2781 calories. You want to consume approximately 2800 calories a day. Exercise is a must (20-30 minute walks 4-5 times a week) and eat 4-6 small meals all throughout the day to stave off hunger. Be sure to include a good balance of carbs, protein and fats. www.mypyramid.gov provides a great analysis of your diet. Don't listen to those idiots who say 1500 calories a day, that is outright rude! I am a Certified Fitness Trainer and have been for almost 10 years now.
Good luck to you in your weight loss! Kathie

1700 but take it slow. For example the diet I am on I'm allowed 1700 calories and I can eat whatever but no BAD carbs. Work out keep active. I walk and dance for exercise. I have so far lost 20 lbs in 4 weeks. It's worth a try. I'm not 300lbs nor am I 5'8, but you can try.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

I'd suggest 1000-1500. Keep it healthy, low in processed carbs, high in vitamins, etc...

And start moving. Check with your doctor, first, but anything more than you've been doing will probably be good. Don't expect your body to be able to get up and run a marathon, though. If you're used to just sitting all day, get up and walk around the house (the outside) once. Make it a slow, leisurely walk, nothing brisk!

Also, while you're checking with your doctor, have Doc do some bloodwork- make sure there aren't other factors you need to be aware of- thyroid issues, heart stress, etc.

That's insanely hard to do. You would have to exercise pretty much all day to burn 7000 calories in ONE day. It usually takes a week or two to burn that many. I mean it can be done but you'll have to put in some serious work to get the results. It just depends on how badly you want to lose the weight.

About 1800 or less should do the trick. I'm sure that eating a bit more than that wouldn't hurt either because the average person is allowed about 2000 calories to maintain their weight.
