Premise 1: You all say god has given you your gifts and everything you have achieved.
Comment: We (as in all people reading your post), don't All say that, so let me correct your premise, so we can move forward.

Adjusted Premise 1: Devout Christians TEND TO BELIEVE that god has given everyone their gifts and everything they have achieved.

Premise 2: The existence of god is unlikely.
Comment: You cannot address the condition of an intemporal state variable in terms of a probability. Either God = yes, or God = no, not God = likely to exist today.

Adjusted Premise 2: I have not been prodived sufficient reason to suspect the existence of a "god", but for the purpose of this analysis, I will hold "god" to be true.

Conclusion 1: If what devout Christians believe about god is true, then no one can accomplish anything.

Let us string your corrected statements together so we can gain a better understand your position:

Devout Christians tend to believe that god has given everyone their gifts and everything they have achieved. I have not been prodived sufficient reason to suspect the existence of a "god", but for the purpose of this analysis, I will hold "god" to be true.
If what devout Christians believe about god is true, then no one can accomplish anything.

Based on this (corrected) set of statements, your conclusion is valid.

I am certain that "devout Christians" will agree with your conclusion as well. If a person believes that God is their provider, creator, sponsor and author then they are very likely to believe that they cannot accomplish anything except those things which are willed by him.

If you are using this (corrected) argument as a basis for a claim about universal determinism, you are going to have to do a little more work.

If your intent was to use the (corrected) argument to illustrate an absurdity that invalidates theism or Christian beliefs, you have completely and totally failed.

Learn more about your enemy before attacking him. That is all I can suggest.

My wife had died one month before, after 63 years of Marraige. She died quietly without any pain, I was by her bedside holding her hand as she left.
A month later while sitting in my church and praying, I asked God to 'Take this burden of grief from my shoulders'.
I heard a voice say ' It is not a burden,Alan, but a Gift' .
Immediately my grief fell from me,for I realised that it really was a gift. For when I see old ladies doubled up with Osteoporosis, with Arthritis, struggling back home with their shopping, I realise just what life would have been like for my dear wife if it had been me to have gone.
I ask you, where did that voice come from?
I await your answer with some interest.
For those who doubt, stop talking, start listening, you'll be surprised at what you hear.

I think the idea goes that God accomplishes everything that's good. If people do good, that's God accomplishing things through people. If they do bad things, then that's not actually God at work, that's the person themself.

That's the way I think it goes anyway. You can find reasons both to believe it and to disbelieve.

I guess I don't understand your reasoning-if there is a God, no one can accomplish anything? I believe God created, God is the origin of things, but my gifts, talents, abilities are a mix of genetics, learned behavior, and God empowers me to use them.
Also, why are some people so threatened by people who don't believe in God? They're asking questions and dialoguing in a Religion and Spirituality forum, so I think they are searching. I don't think it's helpful to tell people to rot in hell.

The 1st gift God give me was the gift of life as he did for all of us!
It is true that no one can accomplish anything with out God letting them! God has power over everything! God is the only one who know what he is doing and it is all for his glorification!

A gift is anything you did not work or strive to achieve. So your very life is a gift from God. Without Him you can do nothing, not even breathe. The little you have achieved so far is because He (in His infinite mercy) has allowed you to.

God gives you the will, the skills, and desire to do certain things or learn certain things....everyone has free will, it is only when you seek God's will, that you can be truelly successful. If there was no God what would be your purpose? you would have none..be here live and die and never more be again...how boring is that.

not true, every person has a gift and/or talent. The difference is a gift is from God, a talent is learned. i can sing, that's my gift from God, I can also play piano, but that is a talent, I learned that...
