Prayer is the second pillar in Islam. Muslims must pray 5 times a day. Prayer allows the muslims to purify their heart and body. Everytime when a muslim pray they have to do udu (process of clean yourself) before the pray so it purifies the body and when a muslim does the pray it helps them to purify their soul. Prayer is also known as a bridge between the God and the person who does the prayer. Prayer increases confidence, self-respect. It allows to avoid sins and lead to do the good things for own benefit, for society and for the nation.

It's a way of connecting with God on a regular basis. It takes devotion, God-consciousness (you have to be to remember five daily prayers!, lol), and it helps to clear the mind and heart throughout the day, eases tension and stress, and relaxes the mind and body.
During the prayer we recite different verses from the Quran, so it helps us to memorize the Holy Book and encourages us to reflect on what it says and what it means.
It also helps in a physical aspect, light exercise and flexing and stretching different muscles and joints help to keep one flexible and encourages good blood flow throughout the body. Elderly Muslim men and women will bow down in prayer, touching their foreheads to the ground in worship on an average of 34 times a day. My grandma (a Christian) would never be able to do that and she's decently fit for her age.
So basically there are four different aspects of prayer that we abide by on a daily basis; spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically.
Hope this helps you on your homework and hope ya get an A! :D

Well the word for prayer in Arabic is "salat" which means connection. Thus, making it a time of remembrance, connection to Allah (swt). It's extremely peaceful, relieving, and meditational. It's a time to cleanse the soul and charge oneself with the willingness to do righteous and abstain from wrongdoing. It's a time where your before God as a slave, and submit to his will. It's also a time of unity for Muslims. All facing the same direction (Mecca) and performng the same ritual. Exercising the soul, mind, and body.
Thx for the Q.
peace unto you

416.Said the Prophet,(peace be upon him): 'The five set Prayers may be compared to a stream of fresh water, flowing in front of your house, into which you plunge five times each day. Do you think that would leave any dirt on your body?' When they replied: 'None at all!' The Prophet, on him be peace, said: 'Indeed the five Prayers remove sins, just as water removes dirt.'

I think, that God made Muslims pray five times a day so that to remember God and be away from sin, Muslims say that prayer gets them away from sin cause they have to report to God five times a day , it is not easy to commit a sin then pray ,
So , when we stand up to pray, we forget everything in life and feel so relaxed that God is around us and we are giving those few minutes only to Him and that is a relief.

Devotion, dedication, routine, spiritual connection and a good compass.
I guess prayer means the same in all cultures - it is a spiritual connection.
