No. Unless the person is close to you and you really want to send something, go for it. It's not a requirement to send a gift if you're not present.

I think that it depends on how close you are to the person. The point of the gift is the thought that goes with it. Send a card and some money. The newly weds will appreciate it just as much.

Depending on the relationship you have with the couple that's getting married, it's customary to send a gift if you received an invitation regardless to your attendance.

Yes, the value of the gift or cash gift will depend upon how close you are to the inviter. If you're a casual friend then something around $30.00. If you're closely related, then $50-100.

i think you should send something even if that something is little because the person who had invited you for his/her wedding must have consider you as someone close to send invitation.if you don't send anything that person will be hurt, and he/she may think that you don't consider him/her to be close to you.
and by the way it is not the quality of the gifts that matters but the intention and affection behind that gesture that count.

no you are not supposed to send a gift if you can not atend but you are surely supposed to send a formal leter(if the wedding card had r.s.v.p. written upon it) stating why you couldn't come and sayin' sorry and wishing those ppl a nice married life!as simple as that!

I would think you would send a gift. Even if it is a little gift.

It would be nice, even though you not obligated to do so. Buy a gift card, always the best way to go.

depends how close you are to this person, as someone mentioned before. I think it is proper etiquette to do so.
