Generally speaking, a half teaspoon of finely chopped garlic equals approximately one clove of garlic.

If you looked at it the other way around...since there are three teaspoons in one tablespoon, one tablespoon of finely chopped garlic would equal about six cloves of garlic.

If it is garlic powder then one large clove is equivalent to about one teaspoon. Given the choice always use the clove of garlic and either crush or finely chop depending on the recipe; fresh ingredients just taste better.

It not an exact science, cloves vary in size, and I've never found one that would produce tbsp, but a large clove could give a tsp and a half.

Depends of the clove's size. Just use your imagination! :)
Perhaps 1 or 2 medium size.
