The first thing you need to do is to Relax and don't worry about what you "need" to do. Just be yourself. It won't help to be all nervous and tense and keyed up about it. Enjoy what you have together NOW, and see where it takes you. It very well may be the right relationship and WILL last.
If you have to say anything in response, just say that you'd "like it to work out as well". You don't have to go into great detail and add any "buts" to that sentence. Just give it time. If it is meant to be, it will be. If it isn't, it won't.

I wouldn't worry about the statement of wanting things to work out. Everyone is nervous about their relationships, especially firsts. If you want it to work out and so does he, then you both put forth your best efforts and see where things lead. There are simply no guarantees in life. Just be sure to keep your eyes open and make sure his actions match his words. i.e. If he says he wants you to work out but treats you poorly, then that is not a relationship to be in at all.

Well, everyone wants their relationship to work out. Don't you want it to "work out?" It's not like anyone starts a relationship hoping they will fight all the time and get their heart broken.
Or do you mean he wants you to exercise together?

No. He's saying that you should exercise because you're too fat. You misunderstood him.
