Does he/she play in the yard? My dog once got stung by a bee (or so we think) when she was outside in our yard and her jaw swelled up like a balloon. We took her to the vet and he gave her a shot of benadryl.

It could be an insect/spider bite, or it could be an abcessed tooth. If swelling doesn't go down by tomorrow, or if he has any trouble breathing, a vet visit is in order.
When you actually witness an insect sting, you can administer children's benedryl to relive symtoms, but not knowing whether it is an infection or an allergic reaction to a bite/sting, it is a guessing game unless you take him to the vet.
I would just watch him very closely and take his temperature to rule out serious infection.
His temp should be 101.5 to 102.5

Most of the answers are good, but one more ideal, did you feed him anything differant? Did you give his any eggs? A few dogs are very allergic to eggs and thier face will swell up pretty bad, or it could be a tooth or bee sting.

probaly got stung my great dane got stung in her jaw by a red wasp and it made the whole left side of her face swell up huge but if doesnt start going down after a day you need to bring her to the vet.
