Everytime you want a smoke wait an hour. once you have waited an hour reward yourself with the cigarette. Do this for a week. Then the following week, everytime you get a craving wait one and a half hours then reward yourself with a smoke. Then the next week increase the time again. If an hour seems too long at first then make it shorter but stick to it and increase the time each week. I did this and soon I was only smoking 1 or 2 a day. Now after doing this for a few months I now very rarely smoke. I sometimes have 1 when I am drunk but that is hardly ever, maybe once every 6 weeks. Try it, it might not be a miracle cure but it worked for me.

I'm assuming that you've tried all the patches and gums and what not!?! Me too - never worked!
I used to smoke about 30-40 a day. Now I'm down to about 10 a day, sometimes 5!
I managed to do it by getting into a routine and cutting out "non-esential" cigarettes!
I do find though that I smoke a lot more when I go out with friends - half the time I don't notice I'm doing it, but as soon as I see someone lighting up, I seem to automatically reach for a smoke.
So what I did is this - I sat down and figured out which cigarettes I craved and then enjoyed the most, and which I smoked simply out of boredom or something to do!
I found that the cigarettes I seem to enjoy the most are the ones that I have after I have eaten, and the ones I have whilst drinking with my friends.
So I decided to get strict with myself and decided to insist on a box of 20 lasting me the day, instead of buying 2 boxes, and then I just gradually cut down more and more!
Now my smoking routine is as follows:
I have one cigarette before I go into work in the mornings at about 9am, I have another at 12.30pm when I go to order lunch for the girls in the office, I have 1 after I have eaten my lunch, I have another at 4.30pm, and then I don't smoke til after my dinner at about 7.30pm.
Those are the "set cigarettes" that I have every day Monday to Friday - in the evenings the amount that I smoke varies after my dinner, but apart from the 5 set ones, I never usually smoke more than 3 or 4 before I go to bed!
By sticking to that routine I have managed to cut down from 30-40 a day to under 10!
Plus, if I have been out at the weekends, I find that if I have a hangover, smoking makes me feel 10 times worse, so I don't smoke at all the day that I have a hangover!
My GP has told me that I am very sensible in the way that I am doing it, and gradually through routine, I should cut out the set cigarettes one by one over a sensible period of time, and eventually I'll be off them completely!!!

Only thing is - I know it's not very PC to say it - but I do quite enjoy smoking! But at the end of the day, it is a very unhealthy and expensive habit - which is why I cut down, and will eventually try to quit altogether!

Hope that helps!

I smoked 2 packs a day for 20 years, then quit cold turkey, so you can too! It's only REALLY hard for about 3 days...the physical addiction is gone by a week, and every day gets easier. BE STRONG! Chew lots of gum, and stash your cig money away...then give yourself a BIG reward after a couple months!

Go to the morgue and look at those dead people who have died from lung cancer or heart attacks and remember if they just would have stopped smoking they would still be alive. Get help and take this seriously. Smoking is dangerous for your health.

Wow, I'm surprised you can still breathe. Just stop smoking, try the patch , hypnosis, something is bound to work. Isn't your life, family, and friends important to you?

Ask your doctor about taking Wellbutrin -- it's a prescription drug that is often successful in helping people quit smoking.

Look, if there's anyone or anything that can stop you from smoking, it's you.
Next time you smoke, or try to, punish yourself.

Have a lot of will-power, you will stop.
