On the christening of my husbands god daughter he gave her a charm bracelet with a christening charm on it. Now every year on the anniversary of her christening he gets another charm put on it. He says he will keep going until her 16th. Maybe this could be an idea for you. Just do it for her birthdays, It is something that she will treasure for life and also his god daughter is always excited about getting her new charm. She is now 11. I think this is also a great anniversary present. (But don't forget a toy as well as the charm bracelet! its a bit hard to play with a bracelet!)

An appropriate gift from a god parent might be a beginners bible. These are really cool! They have lots of pictures, and mom or dad can read to them. This definitely enforces your role as a god parent in my own opinion. Northwestern Book stores have them, and they cost about $17.

Good luck!

Since it's her first Birthday, you should have a family get together, and buy her an album, every year put her birthday picture in it.

if this is her first b-day, then i'd get her something that's not too difficult to understand. here are a few ideas on the top of my head:

fairy tale books

a doll or really cute stuffed animal

fun kid music

i dunno,.... i guess....if you want to be a really really really nice parent, get her a kitten or puppy. hehe.
