A man who is a big part of my life is going through something that his mother and I can jsut not figure out. He's only 32 and that seems too young for a midlife crisis, but I can think of no other explanation. Is it possible for someone that young to be going through this?

If it is a midlife, how can I help him through it? We were together and then slowen things down to friends, but feelings are still there. Should I be supportive, even though some of what he's doing is inconsiderate? Or should I just be civil and give tough love and act like I don't care? I care a lot about him and want to do whatever will jar him out of this.

Mandy...I think its a "catch word" for many things...In terms of midlife crisis it lends to often realization of things we haven't done or experienced, what we have accomplished in our life at that point or things we would like to accomplish, friends, family, loved ones, relationships old and new, just a general evaluation of our live its past and future. I would not put a age on it but generally men and women but more men are given that title. I would ask your friend what he means by this and what crisis is he experiencing...If he can't tell you (private) or maybe he can't explain it...I hope he can share with you so it doesn't affect your relationship.

ahve him do something he would not normally do. midlife crisis is a dis-satisfaction with status quo, usually stemming from feelings of ineptitude, conformity , etc.

Have him see a doctor. He may be suffering from a physiological problem, such as clinical depression, or vitamin defficiency, which can be helped with councelling and medication.

oh ya, it's possible, it all depends on what's going on in his life, his stress level, and the mechanisms he has to deal with that stress.
