"God won't give you anything you can't handle" come from? If that is true, then how come people have illness from stress that could cause death (and it's happened) and some commit suicide (that's not what I call "handling" something). If you say "pray" -- ok, done - have been praying and I'm pretty sure those who suffered the above did the same thing. But where did the quote come from?

The scripture is taken out of context as quoted above. The verse is in I Corinthians. It says, "There is no temptation taken you but such as is common to man. But, God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tempted above what you can bear, but with the temptation will make a way of escape that you might be able to bear it." (I'm quoting from memory King James version, so it's not exact) The verse promises that God will make a way to escape temptation. It doesn't say he will force us to take the avenue of escape. That is entirely up to us.

Philippians 4:13...I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me...While that sounds good as it is written, it is incumbent upon us all as independent human beings to claim the promises that He gives to us, so therein lies the rub. Many profess - but too few possess - the degree of belief which makes Proverbs 3:5-6 our way of life. Lastly, one merely needs to read the book of Job to understand there are rewards at the end of the trail for those of us who claim the victories of passing the test of faith, so to speak. As far as stress and suicide are concerned, as well as fatal accidents and weather-related tragic events, yes, we need to pray...however, more than that, we need true and complete faith...and that ability comes from within each of us...

It could mean that whatever challenges or obstacles one may face, one can overcome thrive and prosper. It may take time, patience and a certain approach, but God won't give us more than we can handle.

I Corinthians 10:13 says God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear,,,God does not give bad or evil things.(that would be satan) God is perfect and all his activities are perfect. the scripture also refers to those who are worshippers of his who have a mearsure of his protection. not unbeleivers or those who blantantly disobey his laws.

I guess these people could not handle what God gave them. Some people just don't have it in them.
