I don't know what kind of dog you have but I had an experience with my dalmation Tasha. She was a great dog but growled all the time. She went fishing and hunting, loved the outdoors. But we had a serious growling problem. If we told her she's pretty she growled we fed her she growled. It started getting worse until 10 years of life with her she attacked me in the face, causing serious damage to my face and my heart. We had to put her down, because a growling dog cannot be trusted. I had grandchildren and it could of been one of them. We missed her very much and it was the hardest thing in our lives we ever had to do. We still have her ashes and a photo album of our many trips together. But a growling do cannot be trusted. You need to stop the habit or you may be facing a serious problem if not to you to someone else.

Have her spayed first. The vet will give her a complete health check to make sure she is healthy.
Next, join one of the local dog basic obedience classes that they hold at the local park. This will give her socialization skills as well as basic obedience commands.
You can also teach her the word "Quit" so when she starts growling, you can tell her to "Quit" in a firm voice.
Your problem will be solved in less than 90 days. Make the appointment at the vet soon.

Try ignoring the growling. She is conditioned to get what she wants by growling. Ignore the growl and the bad behavior should stop in time. Be patient.

Seek professional help. Each time you stopped petting her or put her down when she growled, you reinforced the bad behavior. Now you need help to correct it before it gets worse...to the point she starts biting and you have one of those dogs that you can't move off furniature or do anything unless she agrees. She has become alpha, and she will be until you get some help!!!

Sometimes if dogs are experiencing discomfort or pain, they will growl. Have you taken your dog in for a check-up lately? If you haven't, you should and ask them to check her and tell them the problem. Even though she isn't biting, there still could be something wrong!

As long as she's only growling and not being aggressive, it might just be her way of communicating....never seen that before....watch her close and talk to her...they listen to you and seem to enjoy the attention, maybe this will help. I whisper in my dogs ear and she gets so relaxed it's ridiculous
