This is very true

yes, but it needs to be quite a significant amount of stress. Most people say that they're overweight because they're stressed out, and there just isn't enough stress to cause such a response.

However, when there truly is the right amount of stress, it causes weight gain in 2 ways:

1. Emotional eating - eating for the sake of forgetting about stressors.

2. stress releases the hormone cortisol which doesn't allow your body to use up the energy you eat, turning it into fat.

Yes it could happen, some people when stressed eat more than usual. It all depends on the person and if weight is an issue with your family or not.

No. You gain weight by burning fewer calories than you take in. However, stress increases the levels of the hormone cortisol, which tells your body to store its fat around the abdomen, so your body can actually look a little worse if you are stressed, because the fat is stored disproportionately. This dates back to our cavemen days when it was necessary to store abdomen fat for survival, since you never knew when the next meal was going to walk around the corner.

depends. some people who are stressed out turn to food. others stay clear of it. I've seen both. I, on the one hand, am a clear example of the "stress/weight gain" case.

You gain weight when your caloric intake exceeds your caloric burn rate.

Stress is a factor in weight change because stress can cause overeating, or undereating, depending, on the individual and the situation.
