that's the rumor. don't know i've ever seen it work that way.
i think it was based on everyone living in a small town and the oldest single male would be the tallest and more likely be the one to catch the garter and also be the most likely to get married next.

its tradition to toss the bouquet and the garter. its just an old belief that you'll be married next.
