Thats an interesting question. The Ten Commandments do say not to kill, but God has "gone before" many armies in the bible who slaughtered the wicked. Joshua for example who circled the enemy's castle for 7 days.
In one case God made the sun not darken at night so the righteous would have light to win the battle.
I believe that the Armed Forces are fighting for selfish reasons and are just destroying people out of pure selfishness. Especially the American Armed Forces. They are fighting for a null cause and an unsound govornment. (War for oil...I mean..er...War on terror...)
Most present day war is for selfish reasons and there really is no longer such thing as "destroying the works of darkness." Because the present day military are workers of darkness.
Just like the 4 horsemen & the Apocolypse. The red horse of war. And then out cames the pail horse and death following him. Its all coming together faster than expected.
I think that Jesus was all for love and any war He agreed with was warfare in the spirit. ".. I come not to bring peace, but a sword."
The Ten Commandments do not say 'Thou Shalt Not Murder' but "Thou Shalt Not Kill". Which is all forms of death... I think precisely pertaining to this generation.

The Bible teaches thou shalt not murder. There is a difference, when you protect yourself or your country.
Abortion is murder
A man murdered a 3 year old child a year ago, now he is coming out of jail, because of the Libral- politicaly correct idiots are allowing him to get away free. This man should have been shot. But he walks free to murder another close to the area that I live in.
Are the librals proud of themselves? Allowing and encouraging the slaughter of millions of new born babies every year. And allowing murderers to get away without as much as a slap on the wrist. I hope you feel good about your french speaking, canadian, anti- Christian, anti- moral, anti- American selves. May God forgive us all for allowing this nation to become morally bankrupt.

The bible also teaches to protect ones tribe. Meaning to protect your affiliation be it the church, the country, the state, or the people. Beyond armed forces, there are local and state protection agencies that really don't get questioned. Thou shalt not kill refers to murder. Our armed forces are not murderers, they are protectors and should be honored as such.

The Bible also says tha as Christians we have to destroy the works of darkness. Some people think that it is not just in the Spirit but in the physical too.

Jesus foretold in the Bible that, in our times, "nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom." (Matthew 24:7, 8.) Jesus also said in Matthew 7:21-23: that many people would claim to be so-called "Christians" but in fact be false.
True Christians do not kill in any fashion, such as in war. He told us to "love our neighbor." (Matthew 22:39) He also commanded us to "Continue to love your enemies and to pray for those persecuting you." (Matthew 5:43-45).
The Bible promises that the time will soon come when there will be no more war. (Psalm 46:9; Isaiah 2:4). "Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore."
Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide follow Jesus commandments, and do not participate in war. If you would like to learn more, please contact Jehovah's Witnesses at your local Kingdom Hall or visit http://www.watchtower.org

I cannot answer for the rest of them, of course, but in certain circumstances you can. For example, executioners do not sin when they perform their job, in spite of being unpleasant.
In the case of the army, the soldiers will defend their country against the enemy. Let me remaind you that The Ten Commandments come from the Jews and they also defend their country against the enemy.

It should read "You shall not murder" (and in more up-to-date translations, it does).
Killing can be any taking of life, even squishing a bug.
Murder is planned and well-thought out, generally to take revenge. Murder does not include self-defense or killing soldiers during war.

There is a time for war and a time for peace. (Ecclesiastes 3:8) God can see when it is fit to declare war on a wicked nation. However, WE always try to place ourselves above God Himself and try to decide amongst ourselves what is a good nation and what is not. That's wrong.
