so, why does everyone overlook that in some translations of the christian bible that the mark of the beast is 616? maybe you should think about that.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe some of these "translations" are inaccurate? The King james Version is the most accurately translated version of the Bibile ever printed. It has been in circulation since 1611! Where these other "translations" get their basis for theit translations is beyond me! It took 50 men 7 years to accurately translate the KJV into English from the original languages from the Bible because the scholars of that day insisted on perfection. It insults my intelligence (limited though it may be) to hear someone who can look at the scripture in Revelation that says, "Here is wisdom. Let he who hath UNDERSTANDING count the number of the beast for it is the number of a man and his number is six hundred THREESCORE (score meaning 20, therefore 3 x 20=60) and six." and say that it means something else. It's written right there for everyone to see. 666, not 616.

There's not a whole lot of traction for the "the number is really 616" theory in the archaeological community. It is largely believed the relative handful of scripture attestations to 616 are a miscopy, and not the original.

The six and the iota ('i') look similar enough that a miscopy is easy enough to understand. Ireneaus, whose testimony on the matter is older than any existing copy of The Apocalypse of St. John (or Revelation, if you prefer) says the number is 666.

This accords with history as well. '666' is largely believed to be a numeroligical reference to Nero, and so, for that matter is 616, which makes a miscopy easy to understand.

As to the silliness in the post below mine, that's insupportable nonsense. "666" has nothing to do with day of worship, which the Book of Acts describes for Christians as being "the Lord's Day" and not Saturday...

the whole 666/616 in the bible is the just the number of name's. so the devil's name was either the 666th name or the 616th name mentioned

when u translate stuff u don't usually translate it word for word. in the original Greek Bible it never says what the mark of the beast is.

The Mark of the beast is 666! To accept the beast's mark is to not accept God's Holy Sabbath Day Saturday as Working on the Sabbath.
