I love my Oster Golden A-5, the 2 speed model. They always work and aren't too heavy.
You can get clippers from Cherrybrook, Pet Edge, most any pet supply catalog. The clipper usually comes with a #10 blade, so if that is not what you want, order another size also. A #10 clips pretty close. The higher the number, the less hair it leaves. A #40 is used for a surgical prep before surgery.
If you are clipping a lot of hair,a big dog, or thick hair, get a spray can of Clipper Cool too. Otherwise you must stop a lot because it will get too hot to hold on to.

Happy Clipping!!!!

Stay away from the "pet grooming kit" at Wal-Mart. I think Wahl makes it. They make better clippers like the Oster ones, but this one with the blade that is permanently attached to the clipper is NO good!!! It doesn't even shave a cat.

If you are willing to spend some money I would get a pair of Oster clippers like vets and groomers use. I love mine, of course you can buy regular oster clippers at just about any pet store. with the professional ones you have to buy the blades separate and should get someone to show you how to use them. good luck

Oster has long been the gold standard for professional dog grooming equipment. If you're only going to groom your own dog once in a while, you could probably use any brand. Just make sure to keep them properly lubed and don't let them overheat. Only clip a CLEAN dog, or it will dull your blades very quickly.

Oster is the one that has probably been around the longest, but I personally like the Andis models. They run so much quieter than the Oster and I find that it doesn't scare the pets.
