etiology is defined to be the cause or origin of disease. As stated in my earlier message, kwashiorkor is protein deficiency: fats are burnt, then muscles are wasted, finally leading to kwashiorkor.

Kwashiorkor is medical jargon for "protein-calorie malnutrition". As was stated previously, if you don't get enough protein or calories, your body will start to break down its own tissue.
