I understand your concern and agree with "spanandham" re jingoism, but I wouldn't use the bible as a peace reference. There is no doubt it condones a level of murderous and cruel warfare that modern states take to be crimes against humanity.
And you certainly should not take the commandment you quote to mean "kill" as in terminating a life. To the primitives who proposed that rule it meant "thou shalt not murder." They were quite comfortable with wiping out whole peoples; men, women, children, even the livestock. And all this on command from the same deity you are quoting.

I agree with what you are saying. Recently I went to an event at my daughters school and everyone was asked to stand up and join in singing the Star Spangled Banner. I stood but could not join in. This song to me glorifies war. Why are little children singing songs about war. Shouldn't we be teaching them how to get along. Or telling them how wrong war is and that we have to find a better way. The God I know and love gives us free will to do as we wish. I just wish more people would be for love and peace and refuse war. As far as I know God didn't draw up the borders to all the different countries.

No one said the war we were fighting in Iraq was condoned by God. As for one nation under God, this nation was formed under God, it is (was?) a blessed nation.

Have you ever read the book of Revelation or the book of Judges? God's going to do plenty of killing in the end times (Revelation) just like he did in Judges.
And would you rather just let terrorists destroy America? I thank God for our US troops fighting for me! And I thank God that in 1776 a bunch of rebels decided to form their own country.
