my parents said that they would accept me for who i am, but not letting me be who i want to be seems like they really don't mean it

When you grow up, move out of your parent's house, and provide for yourself without their help then you can be anything you want to be. Until then parents rule.

Tell you what...try visiting goth.net, read the explanation of goth. That ought to help you quite a bit. Being goth isn't listening to certain music or a style of dress; it can be that, too, but first and foremost, it's a state of mind, a worldview. It's hard to explain. It's not about shopping at Hot Topic, hating 'preps' (another social category) or acting disturbed or surly for attention. It's something you do because it feels natural to you. You can dress normally and still be goth because, as I wrote earlier, it's a state of mind. Sigh...try listening to some Joy Division, Siouxsie and The Banshees, The Cure, The Damned, Bauhaus, The Smiths. Try that first and go from there.

I have a son who wanted really felt he wanted to go Goth. He tried it for a while and it was really hard to watch. But I didn't stop him because I wanted him to know I respected his need to check things out. After about 3 months he went back to being himself and I am so glad I gave him the opportunity not to hide anything from me.
Talk to your parents about why you want to do this, and really think about who you are and what going Goth will accomplish for you. You sound like a great kid. Just talk to them again. If they still dont understand...do small things and let them get used to it...BUT whatever you do, make sure you dont just go Goth out of spite.

goth is short for Gothic, named after the Gothic people who gave the roman empire their greatest defeat. while the roman empire may have been evil, the Gothic people were even worse. maybe this is why your parents do not want you to be goth.

if you want to be a goth be it . don't be a person how isn't you. i use to be a little of a goth but now am a punk with my own style mixed. so be who you want to be!!!!!!!!!

Gothism is an extreme. They are looking out for your future welfare. Listen to them for a change, instead of railing against them.
