C.S. Lewis answered this when he said "we are all eternal spirits in a world that tries to hide our true identities from us."
Thus the Bible often speaks of death in life not in terms of our eternal existence ending or our time in this life ending... rather the Bible defines death often as an eternity of separation from God and relationship with Him, and life as eternal life in God's presence.
So one can not destroy a spirit in the sense of making them cease to exist. Only God might be capable of doing that, and nowhere is it even suggested in the Bible that He ever makes any of His creations cease to exist. He is a Creator, not a destroyer. Since we are all immortal, how can we destroy another immortal? By telling them to believe in someone other then Jesus Christ will you destroy them, not as to their existence, but rather the type of existence they will have for eternity.
The Bible speaks of this immortal quality of ours in calling us all gods or deities, for in essence with our immortality that is what we are. However, as it is written, we can still die in this life as men and fall like angels (princes). Unless we repent we will all likewise perish (Luke 13:1-5).
Psalms 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

When Christ was crucified, the Romans killed the body only. Note that Jesus said, "Into Your hands I commend my spirit." At that point the spirit left Jesus and the body died.
So the answer is that there is no way a mortal can destroy a spirit. In fact, there seems to be evidence that the spirit can never "cease to exist" once it is created.

No. Energy cannot be destroyed. You cannot be entirely destroyed either because you are also a type of energy. You can only be disassembled. The energy can be scattered, but that does not mean that the being is destroyed. Just.. confused for a minute. (A metaphorical minute, not a literal minute) For the record, spirits can't destroy other spirits either. But they can absorb them. You (And other spirits) can also drive spirits off, scare them away and defend against them.

You cannot destroy a spiritual being. However, through prayer, which is a spiritual tool, you can destroy the forces of that spiritual beign that are beign used against your spiritual self.
We are both physical and Spiritual and just like nothing can destroy our Spirit the enemy can always weaken our Spiritual health through trials and tribulations. A spirit cannot hurt us physically but can hurt us spiritually.
That is the nature of our battle as Christians.

As Christians we r at war, not physical but Spiritual. Christ gave us the power and authority to destroy the works of darkness. If we put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6), we as Christians can sever the works of darkness w/ the Sword of the Spirit and cause light to shine

Energy cannot be destroyed. This is known as the laws of Thermodynamics. Spiritual beings cannot be destroyed. They could conceivably be changed, but not destroyed.
Hypothetically...let's say Satan exists....if it does and it could be destroyed, why hasn't God destroyed it? Because all spirit is immortal? Hope this helps! :-)

Pray. Ask Jesus to help you. When I feel like there is an evil spirit in my apartment I ask God, "God if there is anything that will harm me or anyone in this apartment building get rid of it. In your name Jesus." Then if i feel like it is really something bad i just say, "Satan get behind me, you are nothing. Jesus is with me, Jesus is with me."
