Bible, Quran, Torah, Talmud, Vedas.
There are more "holy books" in other religions but they don't claim they were written by divine inspiration.
"Hearing the voice of God" doesn't count; hearing voices is a symptom of schyzophrenia.

Madford, it's not just my opinion. Last time I heard, a woman who heard voices drowned her 5 children in the bathtub. I asked "irreefutable".

Avik I hesitated b4 including the Vedas, because i wasn't quite sure, but a website said that, so. If the Vedas aren't claimed to be of divine inspiration please disregard this.

Paradize (and Been) your points 2 to 5 don't prove anything and your item 1 well some say Nostradamus got some prophecies right, so is he God? The prophecy of Jesus, well, he isn't universally acknowledged as the foreseen son of God (Jews, Muslims).

Yogottobekid, I have hope, love and charity but what has faith got to do with the rest? If you want to believe in God OK but can't you do it without such far-fetched tales? Why claim the Bible was written by God? You could believe in him all the same.

Ike, Yes, I would probably believe if it was a valid, credible, irrefutable proof.

lukman, finally, a non-xian! Thanks. But that is no proof. And scientific miracles aren't exactly miracles.

I think only the Playboy Jenny McCarthy issue is a holy book of divine inspiration.
Don't mock the voices. They keep me company.

There is quite a bit of study that can be done (and has been done) on the prophecies of the Holy Bible.
Having "read" the Bible isn't the same as searching through other history books to validate that most of the Biblical prophecies have been accurate.
The ones left are for the future.
I'd start by reading and then studying the prophecies concerning the coming of the Messiah in the old testament.
Then I'd read and then study the prophecies in the book of Daniel.
As far as those other books go, use the same approach; Find out when they were written and study their claims and whether or not they are accurate in history.
Lastly I'd say study the life of the person you respect most. The one person you would want to be like and then find out what makes them that way. Who or what influences them.
Otherwise your religion or belief is worthless to me if I would not want to be like you.

What are you asking? If its hey how do we know these books are holy and the otrhers are not, the only answer is well....you got me. BUT, if you are asking something a bit more, I belive another has mentioned the point of faith. Faith, hope, love, charity are not rational structures. In short, folks who debate what faith is (including other Christians) in reality have little if any true faith. Faith just is. It is neither good nor bad, it is a basis that evetrything else can grow on.
You should see the pissing contests that other so called christians get into over faith, its embarassing. There is at one point in any spiritual path, a decision, it does not mean to surrender all rationality. It does mean to accxept a thing for what it is and that is very very hard for folks to do. It requires, faith.
In response to the idea of faith, having all of the qualities listed above requires faith. However, it does not need to be directed per se at a specific being or idea. Faith is the ability to "know" these qualities are a rerquirement for going anywhere and in reality, nothing else is possible without it.

I'm with you on that one. Basically proof is impossible as the source in those visions is always the most interested character and never examins both sides (like I never heard any prophet say "Am I hearing voices or is this really God") Bottom line is if you drink long enough you could probabbly write a scripture that is as coherant as most (I know this sounds harsh and believe it or not I don't mean any disrespect, but that's the only way other than lieing that some of those visions can be true and I want to give your profit a benifit of a doubt)

If irrefutable proof existed, then why do we need faith?
Here are some evidences that the Bible is from God:
1) Fulfilled prophecy.
2) The unity of Scripture
3) The Bible presents its heroes truthfully with all of their faults and weaknesses.
4) Archaeological findings support the history recorded in Scripture.

Vedas are not word of God. They are words of different sages. However some Hindus consider Gita to be the word of God. I'm a Hindu and I don't believe that any book can be the word of God. Yes, I'm still a Hindu, because a Hindu can question his religion and accept some things and reject others. I cannot give you any proof of divine inspiration because there are none. They were written by Human Beings, plain and simple.

Just because you say hearing the voice of God "doesn't count" that means nothing, it's just your opinion. It is not symptoms of mental illness. It does count if you fully understand what is meant by that, and unfortunately you don't. That is why I suggest you take a Bible study class. You cannot make a judgement about the Bible without fully understanding it.
I cannot speak for the other books you mention, just the Bible.

If you were given the "proof" you were looking for, whatever it is, would you then believe? Would it be enough? It is a matter of the mind, you must be in the right place to recieve a witness from God that His word is true, and then you will have your "proof," but it will be a proof that you cannot prove to others.
Keep your head up.

Did you hear of altitude sickness? Read about it in wikipedia.com, then read in the holy Quran verse 6:125 :
Those whom Allah (in His plan) willeth to guide, He openeth their breast to Islam; those whom He willeth to leave straying, He maketh their breast close and constricted, as if they had to climb up to the skies: thus doth Allah (heap) the penalty on those who refuse to believe.
In altitude sickness which occurs when one goes up high in the sky water may accumulate in the lungs and cause severe chest tightness and shortness of breath. How come this only newly known scientific knowledge was written so precisely and seamlessly 1400 years ago?
Not to make it long such scientific miracles in various fields (astronomy, medicine, geology, etc…) are by no means refutable. Please visit the links below and I will be happy to answer any further questions.
