No there's nothing in The Bible that says that buying a lottery ticket is a sin. I play the lottery too however transgression of the law is sin.

In my state, anyway, the lotto money goes to the schools. So I figure, when I play, I'm donating to the schools. It's an investment in my children and, bonus, I might get a little cash back for it. It's only a problem if you become obsessed with it, if you spend money you don't have on it and seriously think you're going to win one day. If you just see it as donating to your state's schools (or whatever your state's lottery supports) then it is, in fact, the exact opposite of a sin.
Alot of charities do raffles and 50/50 auctions (Including churches). You don't buy the tickets because you're dead set you have to have that ratty old quilt they're raffling off, you do it because you want to donate to the charity. It's all in how you look at it.

lottery, hmmm my hubby plays the lottery and we are christian but he only plays for fun. like the dollar ones. so i would say no. It's not like we depend on winning. I tell him, "you have a better chance of getting hit with lightening then winning the lottery."

In general no. But, if you spend money on it and don't pay bills, take care of your family, etc., then it is irresponsible and foolish which could be possibly categorized as sin. If you buy a ticket once in a while, it's extra money, and for fun (because the odds are stacked against you), and your spouse hasn't a problem with it, then no problem.

actually it is.
since gambling is a sin, and playing the lottery is in essence wagering money or something of material value on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money or material goods which by definition is actually gambling.

I would say not unless you are pinning all of your hopes on winning.
Many people think the Bible says that Money is the root of all evil.
It actually says the LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil.
(1 Tim 10).
Make sure you are focussed on the right thing!

There are many more things you should worry about being sinful than trying to win money.

no,
Lottery is some thing where you try your luck. so while buying lottery don't buy more tickets it is not going to help your luck. just buy one ticket if you are lucky you will win.

i agree with El Sancho. It shows greed and u gamble which Scripture says is sin. My mother (not saved) plays it too. I have told her but she ignores me. But nevertheless God's word says it is wrong so don't do it.
