A lot of time is spent here in the "Religion & Spirituality" section bashing other denominations or religions so I thought we could pause from that and say what we RESPECT or ADMIRE in other's beliefs.

To Start I'm a CATHOLIC but there is much I admire from others such as

1st Baptist - When I was in LA. for Katrina they were very helpful with a drive up for meals, they were very polite and kind

Mormon or LDS -(serving 2 years doing missionary work) I once was driving down the road and picked up two missionaries whose Bicycle had a flat and gave them a ride to the gas station I had a chance to talk with them and admired that devotion

Jehovah's Witness - They don't just talk the talk they walk the walk. They truly live their beliefs and are some of the most peaceful people I have met.

Protestants (no specific denomination) - I absolutely love Contemporary Christian Music. I also respect how most have Scripture memorized, book chapter and verse off the top of their head.

****WOW! I didn't realize my question was so vague to be misinterpreted. I apologize for using only Christian denominations as my examples it was not meant to exclude any one. Thanks to the following for undertsanding the what I really meant:

Ilya R, Deborah, Quiet Warrior, m085z33dsfauqr, AListOwner, kero bearus, romanticide91

funny sarcasm btw from the last two, thanks for the laugh.

****Katct, I thought I'd address your response seperately. You are right I should have said differences not beliefs because what I truly admire is how they FOLLOW their beliefs. As an example I don't believe what JW's teach about Blood transfusions BUT I ADMIRE that they follow their belief so dedvoutly that they sometimes refuse certain medical procedures. This also applies to your "nice music" statement. Coming from a Catholic backround I love hymns and chants that are a part of our Mass BUT I also love Comteporary Christian Music because it takes the same message of the Gospel and puts it in a format that I can relate to. You see there's not much rock/rap/pop music glorifying God being sung by the choir at my Church so I appreciate the difference and I thank the Protestants for bringing "God's Music" into even more modern times (Catholic folk singers did the same back in the 60s and 70s) I hope this clarifies for you where I am coming from. Thanks for your reply. God Bless!

I don't belong to any denomination:

Buddhists are a very peaceful and calm religion that makes claims supportable by science and they do not discourage learning. Buddhist monks must live off the land and I like that.

Judaism brought a lot of sense into this world. WHen not taken literally Tonah is one of the best scientific books ever written and Torah gave spiritual and moral guidence to billions of people. It is a very intelectual and stable religion which is really tolerant of others.

Christianity has some of the greatest humane principles around and those who truly live by those principles are very nice people.

What you admire is not an admiration for other's belief systems at all. You dont mention anything about what belief you admire. Nice music is not a belief.

Many religions do missionary work. Many contribute to relief efforts. Those are humanitarian traits to be admired.

ETA: I admire most of the earth centered religions (Pagan) because the way they respect nature. Nature and earth are alive and breathing and without respect, we will all soon die off.

I do find it amusing though that many people that worship the Christian God give a rat's a$$ about the environment when supposedly it was god that created the earth. You would think they would appreciate the beauty and try harder to get involved in saving it.

ETA again: After reading a statement below, I have to scream. Something about people that don't accept Jesus are misguided?? According to who? You? Yet another thumper that thinks her way is the only way and is intolerant of other thoughts. Sorry about my rambling but it drives me insane to actually see people that think like that. People like you are the reason for hate and violence. Now go away.

I am a christian. I have accepted Jesus Christ as my savior. That is what matters, not denominations. Now, to get to the heart of the matter. There are wonderful people in every religion. There are also wonderful atheist, agnostic, etc. There are good nice people, people that really do care about others and live a good life, etc. But, if they have not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, then they are still misguided. There are also religions out there who I will not name that has so completely twisted God's Word that it is not funny. I have respect for everyone, but I do not hesitate to tell others what I think. Have a great day.

I don't have a religion being an atheist. But I would say that of the world religions which I am familiar with I would say Buddhism has the most to reccomend it. The Buddhists I have met are generally peaceful and respectful of others and they never threaten others with eternal torture.

In my eyes, anyone who follows a certain religion that is based on the Word of God, (Bible) is, if nothing else, in the searching, teachable stage of their faith. This is a very good thing.
I'm just happy seeing people wanting and looking for the answers, whys, and hows of faith. Once they have proven to themselves, they will see it all leads to God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, and the Bible as the Word of God, something to live by.

Well, I can't help but notice that all the religions you said nice things about were some form or another of christianity, but whatever. Here goes, I'm Pagan, athiests have very good logic.

Catholic - Charity work
Baptists - Churchgoing
LDS - Missionary work
Protestant - Good singing
Jehovah's Witnesses - Actually being Christians

Jesus personally instructed his disciples to go door-to-door. Millions of Jehovah's Witnesses around the globe are working to perform the same type of work in our day.

What did Jesus personally say about any who would disregard that important work?
(Luke 10:1-17) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest. 3 Go forth. Look! I am sending you forth as lambs in among wolves. ...16 “He that listens to you listens to me too. And he that disregards you disregards me too. Moreover, he that disregards me disregards [also] him that sent me forth.”

Mat 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples
