Now, Mosaic Law has less compassion written into it; but even then, the Hebrew scriptures are full of stories where God forgave His people, 'wiped the slate clean,' and brought them back to Him, after their punishment for their transgressions.

Servants and slaves of God definately. You are right God does what he chooses and if we bad then he will punish us but he is also very forgiving. We have a will to obey him that is true he gave us that choice but for every action there is consequences or blessings so if we choose to disobey him then he can, if he wants, to punish us. The reason why i agree that we are servants is because we are His creations and in actuall fact we are obliged to worship him.
