They have given their lives for others freedom. That to me is everything.

Anyone who knows me, knows to never, ever say anything derogatory about these young men and women in my presence, regardless of how they feel about the war. They are my brothers and sisters. Yes, there have been abuses and errors, and those need to be investigated and any violators appropriately punished. But by far the vast majority of our military personnel are professional, dedicated and just.

Everyone dies eventually, but some get to die fighting for something in which they believe. To detract from this honorable death by saying they "died for nothing" is, IMHO, virtually unforgiveable. Does the person who dies in a hospital bed from some incurable disease "die for nothing?"

They died to please George Bush. There is nothing else to show for this fiasco. Not even the oil supplies have been secured (the only reason Dubya sent them in to Iraq in the first place).

Soon America will withdraw its troops as, just like Vietnam, the American people get sick of all the killing for no gain. Once again, America will be humiliated.

Another fine mess George Dubya got America into.

Please, don't talk about making the Iraqi people free - you don't have the first idea what you're talking about. They were more free before all this began and they'll be prisoners of American foreign policy and jackboot diplomacy for many years to come.

You have been propagandised in the most blatant fashion. You are isolated from the reality and you don't take the trouble to look into things a little more critically.

And did the "others" ask you to be set "free". You are delusional if you think tnhat this was about giving Iraqis freedom? You Americans contradict yourselves all the time. On the one hand you say "we're fighting to give Iraqis freedom" as if you love them so much and then on the other hand you raise questions like "should we nuke Iraq and Iran". So make up your mind what exactly it is that you want to do. Do you love them so much that you prepared to die for their freedom or do you just want to kill them all because that will be the easiest way out of the mess you have gotten yourself into. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to realise that invading a country, occupying it, destroying its infrastructure and killing its people on a daily basis is compatible with the "freedom" ala Abu Ghraib that you so claim you dishing out. And please enlighten us...what good outcomes does this war have aside from butchery, blood and hate!

It is quiet true that U.S. soldiers are dying for nothing because they will never, forever achieve what they want to achieve over there. They are there to serve ther greed and envious leaders. Which is the greed over the oil possesed by that particular country. They can kill, destroy and do whatever they can be able to do but they cannot bring the oil wells to America.

Secondly, they are fighting to silence the militant groups (impossible). Forever, militant groups cannot be eradicated on this earth so far the United States continue to invade and storm their countries, and continue to give her maximum support to Israel.

They are dying for nothing, will never ever achieve what they want to achieve. I know that insurgents can fight to the coma, or i can say to the end of their lives because this is a command from their religion, and they follow their religious faith than Americans and American leaders follow their religion. I do not think in Christianity one can kill another with out a reason. Although I am not Christian I used to read Bible.

It is a very unpopular war because it was started on false pretense. To say they died for nothing is a bit harsh. But we should have never been there in the first place. It is wrong to attack a sovereign country that is not a threat to the United States, this is the first war that we have ever done that. Bush needs to answer for this and other war crimes.

I am not saying that any particular soldiers died for nothing.

But consider this:
Have there ever been any soldiers that died for nothing, or worse, died while doing harm?

Surely, at some point, there must have been, right?

Freedom is nothing without money.

I am a Europhile and this is what i have to say. I am sorry to offend, most especially if you have lost anyone.
Americans! You worship your own freedom, you prostarate yourself and as slaves humble yourselves before it like a tyrant. And in your blindness to this obsession you allow corruption to lead you in your hearts and government and motions and wage war upon the earth in its name. Only in the name of great good is great evil ever wrought.
We have gained no more freedom in the world for America's wars, we have only gained greater paranoia, greater death tolls, greater hunger for reperation. This must stop.
Europe offered to mediate between America and Iraq and it was turned down on the basis that it was too soft an approach-how can this be?
It is a great deed to die for a cause but an even greater deed to LIVE for one.

Dillpickle, you answered you own
question so well! Even before 9-11, every Veteran fought (and some gave it all) for someones freedom. As A Vietnam Veteran, I say "thank you all military" for your service, and I hope your homecoming was better than mine.

Definitely not! At least not people who realize what they are really over there for. I am a military member and I would be more than willing to go abroad to defend my country so that everyone can have the rights they have today. Anyone who bad mouths what it being done is obviously very ignorant.

It is everything.
When I think of how many Americans give and give when a disaster hits us or any other country, I feel so proud. When the red cross is inundated with donations from people rich and poor wanting so bad to help. But so many won't use that same heart to help free a country from a man that pulled their fingernails out slowly, just for disagreeing with him. And many atrocities for many years. Thank-you for your caring heart.
