Blackpool - you have the pleasure beach for him (games/rides) and the regular beach for you. It's also not too expensive there.
Peak District/ Breacon Beacons (wales) - miles of rolling countryside to walk in. Rent a wee cottage and explore

I would say London. I used to think it was super-expensive, especially compared to where I live in Wales, but when I went last year I realised that the rest of the country has caught up with london prices.
There are coach tour operators that do really cheap deals for UK holidays. If there are just two of you and you are prepared to share a twin room, you could go on a city break for a good few days, transport and hotel included for about 150 each.
The other option would be a beach holiday, in wales or cornwall; if you get the right weather it can be fab; all you'd need would be the cost of a b&b plus evening meals; the beach comes for free.
I do also agree with one of the other answers though; foreign holidays can be just as cheap these days.

Try checking on Havens website for a late deal. Sometimes it is cheaper to do half board than self catering so look at both. Your son would be able to mix with others and you could spend some time on the things you enjoy. Don't forget that the newspapers often do £15pp holidays if you collect tokens, so keep an eye out for the adverts. If you don't drive, check the prices on National Express coach travel, it might take longer but often it is a lot cheaper thantravelling by train. Teletext often have some good offers too.

I would go for a camping or B&B holiday in somewhere like Newquay in Cornwall or Tenby in Wales as there will be plenty for the lad to do, usually decent weather, and most camp sites have a club or bar on site where you can socialise as well.
Holiday camps are also no longer the Hi de Hi places they used to be, but there again they probably are not as cheap as they used to be either.
Whats your budget?

Go to the seaside with a tent and just find somewhere out of the way to camp for free.
Watergate bay near Newquay is good, I used to work there.
There is room to camp on the cliffs as you go left out of the bay. And he can learn to surf.

What about the city of York? it is beautiful and interesting, loads to see and do. Or Cornwall, get a tent and camp, that's cheap and you can move around where you want to then.

There's an adventure park called Woodlands in Devon and it is really good. There's award winning camping facilities and indoor and outdoor rides suitable for all ages. It's not that expensive either.
