August is the worst month to travel as everybody else is so Europe is out, try one of the mountainous Caribbean Islands, Hawaii or the South Pacific. Many of these islands are extinct volcano's so while the mountains aren't usually high they are step and offer good trekking just a mile from the beaches.

Bulgaria - we have beautiful mountains and nice beaches. Go to the 7 Rila lakes, visit Chudnite Mostove in the Western Rhodopes and stop by in old Nessebar on the Black Sea coast:

Thailand:
North - Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Song... are good areas for trekking in a rainforest
South - Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and other smaller islands are good for its beaches.

Colombia
North - San Andres, Providencia, Santa Marta... are great places to relax by the beach.
South - Amazonas is a huge forest for loads and loads of trekking.
(And there are fewer tourists here than in Thailand. I live here, so I definitely recommend it!)
