Can be achieved artificially by techniques such as dialysis and (in a very limited number of cases) chelation therapy.
Other less mainstream methods for eliminating toxic substances from the body include the modification of the diet and addition of certain herbs and rituals such as colonic irrigation, juice fasting and sweat lodges. All these methods claim to assist the body's natural detoxification process.
A detox diet is a dietary regimen involving a change in consumption habits in an attempt to detoxify the body by removal of toxins or other contaminants. It is claimed to improve health, energy, resistance to disease, mental state, digestion, as well as aiding in weight loss.
Various methods of modifying the diet for the said purpose of detoxification include:
Fasting, including water fasting and juice fasting.
Increased consumption of fish such as salmon
Food combining.
Caloric restriction.
Herbal detox (if one considers herbs food and not a form of drug).
Detox diets usually suggest that fruits and vegetables compose a majority of one's food intake. Limiting this to unprocessed (and sometimes also non-GM) foods is often advocated. Limiting or eliminating alcohol is also a major factor, and drinking more water (which helps curb appetite) is similarly recommended.

There are two things that detox the liver: one is given by a doctor called "lactalose". It's similar to a laxative and some people take it for that purpose. It is not absorbed in the body, just passes through and brings the toxins with it.
You can also do a natural liver/gall bladder cleansing that involved drinking olive oil and epson salts after a fast. Go here for instructions: http://www.falconblanco.com/health/cleansing/liver.html
Your liver will benefit from decreasing alcohol and any unnecessary medications.
Good luck.

Knock off drinking alcohol and drink plenty of water instead.
The liver is the only organ in the body that has the ability to regenerate so give it a little time and things'll straighten out unless too much damage has already been done.

dandelion tea is very good for flushing out the liver, but be warned, it's also known as "wet the bed tea" so be prepared for lots of number 1s.
