Congrats! It's really hard to get them used to their own room, but you're on the right track in trying to create his own special little place. I think the mural idea is great! There's a lot of great clip art online of spidey and all the other popular cartoon characters. It really isn't that hard. Use an overhead projector or laptop and powerpoint the image onto the wall then just trace in with pencil. The painting part is a piece of cake! Use the chosen image as a "go by" and use quarts of krylon paint ready mixed at Walmart. After filling in the base colors of the images, you can use a fine line paint brush and black paint to outline and add definition to the picture. Since these particular colors are all bold primary colors, you needn't buy up all the assorted (and pricey) spiderman items. You could use the blue on the other three walls, use solid red bedding and maybe a decorator set of sheets. In a couple of years when he thinks he's outgrown this character, you can still have the basics to change the theme to something else. Instead of posters, why not use the giant coloring books and create your own original art together? Just use poster frames and it's one of a kind. Good luck....it's going to be lots of fun!!!

Check the home decor stores or Home Depot. You might find a wallpaper murel of Spiderman. I have one of the New York Harbor at night over the Brooklyn Bridge. I just love it. I saw a superhero one but I do not recall if it was Spidy.

I need to tell you that if you son is used to sleeping with you he is not gonna want to sleep on his own just because the room has Spidy or anything else on the walls. What you have done is create one of the worst habbits in the child and one of the hardest to break once it is established.

Be prepared for a battle but you must remain firm. Fix the room, let him help if that is at all feasable and then explain that he is growing up and a big boy and itis time for him to sleep on his own. Tell him this neat room is for him and that is where he is going to sleep from now on and not with you anymore.

Now you must stick to it. He will return to your bed and hav all sorts of excuses or just plain throw a fit to get back but you must patiently return him to his room and his bed EVERY TIME HE COMES TO YOURS. Any permitting of him back in with you will set back what ever progress you have made even one night will set you back to square one so prepare for a few sleepless nights but he will get the message and you will have made the transition

No matter how great you make the bedroom, you will still have a challenge to get him to want to sleep in there. My son slept with me til he was four. We had to move him gradually, starting with just having him nap in his own room and then moving him out of my bed and into his own bed (in my room).

It took about six months before he was ready to sleep in his own bed in his own room at night.

As for decorating your child's room. Go to one of those home stores like Home Depot and talk to someone in the paint department. They can show you how to stencil, do faux finishes, etc and probably help you find something that you can do to make it a great room for your son.

If you're doing spiderman, maybe a giant web on one wall and a city scape (with spidey swinging in mid air between blds) on another wall.

You can buy all types of murals. Go to Home Depot, paint store, etc., to get ideas. Some places can do computer printouts to show u what it would look like.

It wont matter how well you do the childs room. you are going to have to start telling him he has his own room and if he gets up in the middle of the night to sleep w/you,take him back into his room. This could take some time but believe me it really does work.

If he is old enough, let him paint something on the walls. Ask him what he wants. Get him involved and he will get excited to sleep in there.

What about asking him what he would like to do? Maybe he would like to have a big chalkboard wall to be able to color and draw on (they have chalkboard paint). Maybe he would like the spiderman idea. What is his favorite color, is it blue or are you using blue as in for a boy?
