hmmmm i dunno, good question...

....your all saying its because its cleaner but it shouldnt matter if its from a different tank because when you boil water it gets rid of any nasties from the heat! boiled water is clean....

....i think maybe because generally cold water comes out fast from the tap, so is quicker to fill up. my hot water tap is slow and wud take longer to fill. and also even if i did fill it up with the hot water tap it doesnt come out hot straight away so its easier and quicker to just use the cold tap....

Whats the point of using hot water when the kettle will just make the cold water hot? Also our taps at home, the hot tap takes a little while to get hot and our cold water is always cold.

In work we fill the kettle with cold water as the hot water comes from a different tank and is not suitable for drinking.

Boiling won't get rid of all the bad things from the tank...like lead. some hot water systems have water softener chemicals.Freshly run cold water has a lot of oxygen in it which some people think makes it taste better than water that's been sitting in a hot water tank. A mouse once got into our hot water tank and mouse parts came out through the tap.. But I doubt that cold water boils any faster

If you have a combi-boiler (ie water from mains and not a tank in your loft) then it does not matter whether hot or cold is used to fill a kettle as it is drinking water. However, if you have a tank and fill from the hot tap, just have a little peek into your tank sometime - I think that will answer your question.

You should always fill kettles or pots for cooking from a water source connected to the rising main i.e connected to the street main . Usually in a house this is the kitchen tap this is the purist water you will get in the house as it then goes into tanks or immersion heaters that are rarely cleaned.

Because the cold water feed is directly from the mains (treated, pure water). The hot water comes from either a tank or a boiler and may contain bacteria and other nasties.

Hot water causes limescale in your kettle. Something about it being in a tank rather than the mains.

Probably because the hot water isn't usually suitable for drinking. Also, there may be limited hot water but cold isn't usually limited.
