I think that the National Anthem is played at Sporting Events to honor the country of citizens of the United States of America because without them, sporting events might not exist in America.

don't know if i can explain it to anyone who has to ask this question.all country play their anthem at large gatherings to let their people feel the sense of pride,fellowship,citizenship,unity,and belonging to the nation as whole
