You can probably get one started, perhaps be invited as a speaker. Someone needs to wake these kids up. However, this too, is all about the money. Anything that involves the state, most of the drug abusers are contracted by the state. No kidding. T'he public schools don't help, they will tell the parent to get a lawyer! If your to say that you kid will say you beat him, as the kid knows that parents don't have any rights, and this is what they teach them in school. When no such beatings ever take place, the kid knows he can lock you up, yet they continue to try you. Then their TOUGH LOVE program is a joke, you get a recording and your call is never returned. Finally, when the kid gets picked up and the police bring him back for the 14th time, you don't answer your door, then will something be don't by the system. All the troubled in these boot camps and drug rehab places are under contract. Just like contract companies, (kelly girl, etc. like employment agencies) , and the more kids they (social workers) recruit, the more money the state pays them. He goes thru tether after tether, & still isn't where he is suppose to be at the time. It goes on, and on. Unbelievable! But true. The social workers don't care about the kids, it's all about the money. The social worker gets the kid as they get shuffled from holding to holding, until they have room for another in the camp. Then the parents get the kid out, he either straightens up or does hard time. Usually the later, but it's for his own good, until he sees the light. And don't blame the parents, we just give our kids too damn much!

Program that do not pay would love to have someone like you to help share the experiences of the rough times that you faced because of the situation that you were placed in. As far as finding a place that would pay you for what you have learned over the years, well, needless to say you wouldn't have too much to stand on. Anyone can say that they have been through it, and never were just to get the position. You should look into your life and figure out what you were doing wrong in order for someone you cared about, whether or not it was your child, to use drugs. You had to have done something wrong somewhere along the lines to make the person turn to drugs. They just don't turn to drugs for a reason. When you can get past your own denial, that is when you will find yourself not in the situation that you are in.

You are a very strong person to of do much for people who right or wrong get little support. There are training courses you have to go into first and in your city there will vol groups that you can join giving you a great start and CV. There are jobs out there its just knowing one other idea would go to the drug centre explain what you would like to do and what you have done get there advice on how they started and where to go. Good luck.

Hi The reason is you can say you had all the experience in the world, but they need a piece of paper saying that you have. I would try a voluntary service first like a drop in centre that kind of thing and if this is something you want to do i would call your local college to find out what courses would be available.
Good luck

There are no drug abusers only drug users! If they couldnt prevent their own kids from narcomania I guess Community drug programmers dont want Community drug addicts-dealers.
This is trully a sad, sad story...

It sounds like you have valuable knowledge and experience so I don't know why they wouldn't hire you unless they require a degree. Why would you want a job in this field...haven't you had enough of it ? If they won't hire you then start a support group for parents of drug addicts and help others with your knowledge and maybe employment will come from it somehow. good luck

YOu can get a job in a community drug program, you just cant get a job based on experience. many currently chemical dependency counselors are in recovery and chose to help others as they were helped. They dont get the job based on experience though, you have to be educated

It depends on what kind of a job you are looking for in the programs. I guess that would be up to the program. You should check with them and find out what "education" requirements they have in addition to your experience.

I think you would be great at this. You should keep persuing it. I know people who have family members that have gone through something are less judgemental about it, more sympathetic, and just make other people going through it feel more at ease to talk to them :) good luck

If parents can't control their drug abusing kids....how are they going to effectively control any one else? They need to learn to be parents before they can be councilors.
