depends on the reason for the dandruff. could be just dry scalp or could be a skin disorder. sometimes dandruff shampoos can help, the stronger ones being like coal-tar shampoos or the gentler head and shoulders stuff.
or you need to moisturize your scalp
or you might need to see a doc for meds.

Yes, definitely your first bet is to purchase some anti-dandruff shampoo... there are lots of brands and varieties to try.
If that doesn't work, you should see a dermatologist and ask them to prescribe a 2.5% selenium sulfide lotion. It's only available by perscription, but it'll solve even the worst dandruff problem. Just be sure to follow the directions carefully, because it's extremely strong stuff (over-the-counter shampoos use a 1% concentration) and will cause major irritations and burning if over-used.

Do a hot oil massage in your hair and keep it for an hour...scrub half a lemon on the scalp for 5-10 mins and shampoo with a mild shampoo so that the scalp is not excessively dry.....or just use a selenium suphide based shampoo after oil massage.

you probably aren't shampooing correctly.
get hair COMPLETELY wet before adding shampoo. pour shampoo into palm of hand and rub hands together. dab onto hair. SCRUB scalp and finger comb thru ends.
rinse COMPLETELY. then rinse again.
TOWEL DRY HAIR - ALL OF IT. GET MOST WATER OUT.
apply conditoner to palm of hand and rub hands together. dab conditioner onto hair starting with the midlength then ends then roots. finger comb thru.
rinse with warm water untill conditioner is gone then rinse again in cool (as cold as you can stand it) water.
comb wet hair. brush dry hair.
apply product to DAMP not wet hair (or it will be diluted and not work) and not on roots.
i see this a lot. most people, believe it or not, do not shampoo correctly. most professionals THINK they can do a short-cut shampoo for clients because they shampoo at home. i have found this disturbing because we are the ones who should be educating our clients on how to take care of their hair. IT'S OUR JOB! THAT'S WHAT WE ARE PAID FOR!

Wash your hair every day with head and shoulders shampoo. Will take a week or so, but it will get rid of it. It'll come back if you stop washing your hair regularly.
