My momma cat started having her littler of kittens on early Monday morning..........This morning(Wed).....we discovered that she had another kitten. It didn't survive, as a matter of fact it didn't look like it had been alive when it was born. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

GET HER TO A VET RIGHT AWAY!

When I was a teenager we had a cat that had several litters all normal timely births until her last litter. She was not delivering the dead kittens, it would have killed her!

Don't take any chances, get her to a vet right away!

Each kitten has its own little placenta and amniotic sack. Since they don't share the same amniotic sack it is possible for them to be born at different times.
I can't tell you for sure what caused the delay. It is possible that the kitten had a problem with its development and died long ago or it could have died after the others were born.
This can occur in other animals as well and I have observed it with cows before. I remember one case in particular when the second twin was never expelled but decomposed within the mother. The calf had to be extracted in pieces to try and save the mother who was by that point ill. I can't recall it the mother recovered.

yes my cat had the same problem, but only two out of the 5 survived we think maybe the cat that got her pregnant was to big and the kittens didn't have a chance to develop. it was so sad to see but you need to take away the dead kitten because she will eat it. we learned that the hard way some people told us that she would get scared if we didn't leave it there so we did and she ate it so we took away the rest of them and she was okay. Good luck to you and I'm sorry I know it's heart breaking

Kittens are born, supposedly one after the other at the same moment the other or the litter of them is born. I guess the late one out, a day after, was not brought out by the mom cat on time, that is why it was already dead when it came out.

It could be that the kitten was stillborn. With it not being alive, the mommy probably didn't feel the urge to push until later. That's what happened to my one cat - she had the first one at 8 am, second at 9 am, third at 2pm, and the fourth (dead one) the next day...

YES!! Probably what has happened here is the kitten was dead inside Momma. After getting the other kitties out, that one(Thank God) worked it's way out. You could of had some SERIOUS problems if Momma couldn't get it out!! Be very thankful!!

Yes. Usually it is due to stalled labor and if the mother gets to a vet and gets a shot of cxytocin, the labor can start again and the kittens can be born alive.
Spay your cat please.

Yes, it is normal, it happens all the time.

My Persian had 2, and then 3 days later, had another one.

Hmm. reliable alternatives. the guy without guy (Clint Eastwood) - Sergio Leone's money trilogy Mad Max (Mel Gibson) - The Mad Max trilogy "Snake" Plisken (Kurt Russell) - smash out from lengthy island and smash out from L.A. Wez, from the line Warrior, receives an honorable aspect out. So does The Terminator.

I have heard of this happening with twin people, so I suppose it could happen with kittens.
