the post op pain from an extraction can last for over a week. if you're a smoker or you drank from a straw following the extraction you can expect some alveolar osteitis or "dry socket". get ready for some real pain in this case. and the bad news is that pain killers do little to aleviate the pain. you'll have to go back to the dentist and have him pack some clove oil down in the socket. the moral of the story is to take care of your teeth so you don't have to go through this ever again.

Ignore all the others.
I had my roots extracted 2 and a half weeks ago and they still feel slightly tender now. This is normal. Your dentist had a good old rummage about in there didn't he?
I had to take painkillers for a week and this is fine but I dont think you should be taking them hourly, that can't be good for you surely?
If you are in the UK give NHS direct a call they will advise you on what to take and when.
Hope you feel better soon, its miserable isn't it?

Go back to the dentist who did the procedure. Sometimes, you can get what is called a dry scoket. The dentist will pack the gum and should be gone in 36 hours.
A dry socket is caused from taking the packing out to early, smoking, or sucking on a straw.
Good luck to you. Don't wait anymore though it will only continue to hurt more.

Something called "dry" socket or "air" pocket. Are you to gargle with warm salty water? Definitely not normal. Contact dentist. You had a root canal? Might need referral to endocontist who specializes in pain from root canal. I had ungodly pain after mine, but only lasted about a day.

Best answer is to call your dentist. That sounds like a lot of meds, though it depends on how complicated your procedure went.

depends on whether you are a smoker or not
