Dont' jsut get a second opinion at random. Find someone with a good dentist they reccomend. A dentist that they have been going to for at least 5 years and get a personal refferal. That way you can have more confidence that the opinion is trusted. Dentist get these kind of refferals all the time from our longer term patients

You can get a second opinion from a different dentist. Check with your insurance provider, a standard dental plan only covers one exam every six months and you will have to cover the cost of your second opinion yourself.
If the dentist is reccomending prosthetics such bridges, dentures and implants, ask for the dentist to submit a "predetermination of benefits" to your dental insurance provider so that you know how much of the cost will be out of your pocket.
Another thing to consider is that some dental work is oral surgery and may be covered in part by your medical plan.

What the heck do you mean by "I was upset with his answer"?
Did he call you a bad name? Or accuse you of being a dirty slob?
I'm guessing that he spoke with you candidly and told you very clearly what your tooth needed. Why should you be upset with this?
Unless he told you he wanted to place sticks of dynamite in your tooth and blast away the problem, you're wasting your time with a second opinion.

Find another dentist. I had one like that and it caused more damage to my teeth in the long run... Now I have a great dentist who cares about my teeth and looks at all options.
Good luck to you

you can always go to a different dentist but if he tells you the same thing then you better listen to him. that is why he is the professional. he went to school to take care of people's teeth. let him share his knowledge with you. that is why you pay him right?
