you've got a lot of questions there, and many are overloaded with understories and superlatives. lets go through them 1 by 1.
1) Because the public relations arm of the Catholic faith sells itself so well, by giving away a book with some wise words in it.
2) Because it incites fear, makes it sound believable within the context of the story, offers redemption and salvation, and comes loaded with wise quotes that are far before it's time.
3) sort of. The book was written in a language other than english, over 2 millenia. Many changes and alterations have occurred since, 'impoving' it so it's more believable. The number of 'Bibles' that exist is innumerous, and most churches have, as you say, read them all and plumped for this one or that one.
4) Others read one and think it it all just an accident of birth they happened across the one book that answers all their questions.
5) It is true that the major religions in the west are based on The Bible, so more people are having kids and leaning them toward Bible bashing.
6) It is the oldest book (or at least 1 version is), and the youngest major religion, which represents the pinnacle of civilized man, or at least it used to be. This has recently changed.
7) They are 'told' as young children to accept this book into their heart and mind or go to hell. not a hard choice for a developing mind.
8) There are millions of Hindus around the world, admittedly less in the western world, but far more in the most populated countries in the world, like India, where Christianity is taking off, fast. This should give new meaning, and confusion, to your questions. The answer is that it is sold to them like selling ice to an eskimo, and it's working.
The Point: Being saved from your suffering is a temptation too good to ignore for the majority of people, and with suffering on the rise new converts are becoming the converters, and so on.

This is the thing called Brain washing or in West you know it as Programming....
Usually people believe in the Religion of their parents and they blindly follow it. They never question its authenticity, likewise Christians of the west as a whole do the same thing... I am surprised to see that A Christian Professor of Astrology believes in the Bible which goes totally againest the astrology, e.g.
Genesis first chapter speaks about creation of Earth in six days of morning and evening, referring to 24 hour day... A universe could not have come into existance in six 24 hour periods. Furthermore Genesis chapter 1:3-5 says light was created on first day and Genesis chapter 1:14 -19 say that the source of light i.e. stars and sun were created on 4th day, now the question is how can be there be light before the source of light..
The list can go on and on but the real thing is that such christian Professor develops split personality within himself. On one hand he teaches science to students but on other hand he believes on unscientific Bible.... That is a big Joke....

The name of the book means nothing. It's the meaning and truth it gives us that means ever thing. People need to believe that with all the hatred in the world that has to be something else.
If you sat and read the bible you will find that no matter what fate you are or what back ground you come from that it will touch you. The stories in the bible give different things and messages to everyone how reads them

Because people have been told for generations that it is true. I often wondered the same thing myself. I think if someone says something is true for long enough and comes up with theories about it, then inevitably, some people are going to believe it. I mean, I have even heard of people actually thinking Da Vinci Code and Harry Potter are true stories. It doesn't take long for some people. No doubt you will get answers saying such things as "because it is the truth" but that's only because they don't have a clue and have been told what to think.

Why do people believe that Hitler and other historic figures? Did they exist?
What about GOD?
people are too lazy to find out and search for the truth... they'd just take facts as is.
So if someone is born in the west as u say.. he'll believe in bible.. even though not reading it
when you find that believing in GOD doesn't make sense u just make a comparison...
Is believing that we're just part of an infinite pointless loop makes more sense?
People have other concerns with education and money and entrtainment.... but when it comes to religion... they just won't bother....

Perhaps because this book isnt like any other. why is that people who aint born in the west still see visions of the main man in the book?is it mass delirium? i dont think so?probably because when something is true, it doesnt need to defend itself.when u know as long as there is oxygen ure lungs will still work, u dont need to believe or not believe in oxygen.whether u believe or not, oxygen exists. same with the bible, its evidence thru people who have been changed by it speaks for itself.hope this is useful.

you answered your own question yourself. Why, these 66 books were written over 1500yrs on 7 different continents by 44 different authors from all walks of life Shepperd's, fishermen, states men, kings, priests, poor, and wealthy . Most not knowing who the other author was making a complete book that lasted over 4 thousand yrs unchanged ( dead sea scrolls just one proof of the bible being unchanged) and intact, no other book in history can make this claim. Do some research on it and on every other book written.
I'll take trust in this book over any other just on the evidence alone. try putting 3 of the best authors together tell them to write a book without consulting each other see what happens.

try going through the book of mark (it is the first book in the new testament - ask someone if you can't find it) and underline all of the things in it that you just cannot believe.
make sure you read it carefully. don't just pick it up when you're really tired or something.
no-one is going to follow you up on it. but if you really want to see what all the fuss about the bible is, try doing that and i bet that by the time you get to the end of mark, you will know the answer to your question.

I believe the Bible is true - it has been substantied by independent people (the greeks, romans etc) and was writted by scholars doctors etc - sometimes for money in the case of Luke! Why not belive this and then believe everything the romans and greeks said they did?
I have studied other religions and like elements of most of them but still belive that being a Christian is the best option.
