3,500 calories is equal to one pound. For example, if you eat 250 calories per day fewer than your maintenance rate requires and exercise enough to burn an additional 250 calories each day, you will lose approximately one pound per week.

First - calories is the correct spelling
Second - A calorie is the amount of energy, or heat, it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit). One calorie is equal to 4.184 joules, a common unit of energy used in the physical sciences.
Third - a pound of what? A pound of sugar will have more calories than a pound of celery. So, if you are on a diet, eat more celery.

You need to burn 3500 calories more than you consume to lose 1 pound of bodyfat. One gram of fat= 9 calories. 28 grams= 1 ounce. 16 ounces = 1 pound. My math says 4032 so I must be missing something.
1 gram of protein=4 calories
1 gram of carb= 4 calories

If u r asking, how many calories are required to maintain body weight at its present condition, it is: Body weight in kg x 28 =the calories required per day.
However, u need to take second opinion about it-!
