It's all a question of how big your world is. Caesar did it. Charlemagne did it. Popes did it for a long time. But really, ruling the "whole world" by one person or even a group of people would be impossible in the long term. The ability to control all aspects of people's lives in a world this big would be a logistical nightmare, and even if you could buy the cooperation of enough people to do it, it wouldn't last long. Keep dreaming though. A man's got to have goals.

Gengis Khan couldnt do it, and neither could the Christians. Its just a fantasy. The problem is there are 3 billion different personalities. That is why govts do not work. Its impossible to make that many different personalities happy at the same time. no one wants the same thing.

Anything is psobbile..Gengis only stopped from world domination because he died! (Hard to conquer from beyond the grave)..We could say that militarily America and the Armoured West hold huge sway in the world...however, our people are turning against increasingly right-wing governments...so hey, maybe it is possible...

It occurs to me that the U.N. has just such a goal in mind. I pray their tail wagging the dog philosophy is put down! Hey! If America stops funding them, sends them all home, and reclaims prime real estate, no one will hear their collective whining over the cheers of average America.
