I get the impression that those answering this question have never spent time in Asia. Yes a great many do have that opinion. It is wrong but when they go there most of the gals they meet are looking for the money we bring with us. They think all of us white people are very rich. Compared to most of them we are. Go to Asia and see for yourself. For one thing sex is looked at different than it is in the west. Many things are. It is difficult for most western people to even begin to understand the cultures over here. Don't call them prostitutes or whores either. They for the most part are not. They are just working girls trying to survive in a very cruel world. I know many people here and I find they are not much different than you over there. They just live under different rules and traditions.

Of course not! I have lived in Asia for a decade...and while there are massage parlours on every street, (with "special services" rendered), it is only a sad commentary on the fact that young 16 year old girls from the countryside do this to earn money to send back to their families...to buy things like....food. And it's an even sadder commentary on the foreign "gentlemen" who become addicted to this, leave their families, and "fall in love", only to find later that all the girl wanted was that magic passport. Can you say GREEN CARD?????

And, the problems in Thailand are of a completely different sort. There is too much to even begin to discuss in this forum, at least right now for me. It is even sadder to see the kidnapped girls AND boys being used as sex slaves, for that is what they are. And, by the time a girl has reached the ripe old age of twenty-three or so, she's considered "over the hill" and often returns to Burma or Nepal or southwest China where she came from and lives in misery from a myriad of std's. And the boys...well that's even sad..for most of them are not gays. They are "working men" sending money back to their families in Burma, who use the money to build incredibly ugly, large, dark, box-shaped houses...

There's a lot to see and learn in this part of the world....
and a lot of humanitarian work to be done.

W'uh? I've never come across that stereotype. If one does see asians tthat way, they're as ignorant as any other bigot. The preconception I usually have about asians is that they're smart, and hard working. (is a stereotype in itself I know, but we all have them to some degree)
